What
is cataract?
It
is an opacity of the eye’s natural lens. The cloudiness in lens blocks
the lights passing from lens to retina and impairs the vision.
What
is the cause of cataract?
Usually
it is age related. It can also occur due to trauma, drugs, chemical or
radiation exposure, heredity or systemic diseases like diabetes.
Is
there any way to prevent cataract?
There
is no way to consistently prevent cataract development.
What
is the treatment for cataract?
To
restore clear vision, the eye’s natural lens is surgically removed and
replaced with an intra ocular lens (I.O.L.) which focuses light on retina.
When
to opt for surgery?
Patients
should undergo surgery whenever they have difficulty with vision hampering
their day to day lifestyle activities. There is absolutely no concept of
waiting for cataract to “mature” or “ripen”.
What
facilities are available at NEC?
At
NEC, the most latest and sophisticated technology is used for surgical
management of cataract by most experienced surgeons. It includes stitchless
cataract surgery by phacoemulsification (ultrasonic needle breaks and removes
the cataractous lens) followed by intra ocular lens implantation.
The lens is implanted through a small (2.6 mm -3mm) incision.
Smaller the incision, less is corneal astigmatism (need for wearing distant glasses) and earlier visual rehabilitation.
The stichless cataract surgery and foldable lens allow this.
The type of lenses which
can be implanted are:
-
Simple foldable lens
-
Foldable lens with Advanced Optics
-
Foldable lens with Advanced Optics with UV Blocker
-
Multifocal lens
Navjyotie Eye Centre
offers all kinds of cataract surgery on a day care basis.
